Spent a productive two and a half hours at Marston STW this afternoon, highlight a single Cetti's Warbler in the SE corner of the reedbed 1540-1600 which slowly worked its way west along the dyke. It called (but didn't sing) on several occasons and showed briefly twice, but was generally a skulking b@stard. To my knowledge that's the first Grantham area record, wouldn't surprise me if they subsequently breed there. Also unblocked Little Egret: a single bird flushed from the flooded field adjacent to the hide and flew east, appearing to drop down near the Witham. Other than that just the regular winter players: 1 Stonechat, 4 Chiffchaffs, 16 Curlew, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Buzzards, 1 Kingfisher and 1 Lesser Redpoll. Duck numbers generally low as water levels rather suboptimal, but the works area was rammed with crests, looks good for a rare Phylosc. Alex |
