....and for the less energetically disposed these cold winter days.....
7 Goosanders - early afternoon on Lodge Lake, Swanholme Nature Reserve, viewed through bins from the garden of the "Swan Holme" pub on Doddington Road, Lincoln. ( I only bought a packet of crisps to gain legal entry - honest! - cheese and onion ).
Plus 27 Waxwings still in the tall Plane tree by the side of the Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers at the bottom of Tentercroft Street. - 1.00pm. (from the cold pavement nearby).

Regards,

Freddy

Chris,
All right, then - I'll come clean. As the trip to the Waxwings cost me my lunch, I was,so to speak, like our Waxwings - a bit peckish and in need of some refreshment. So, after leaving the "Swan Holme", I did go back to the pub and bought ....... another packet of crisps - this time, though, salt and vinegar. As I was leaving, I think I heard one of the regulars say, "There goes the last of the big spenders!" :-D

Regards,

Freddy

Nice crisp reply, John. :-)
But the next time I am at the "Swan Holme", I promise Chris I'll try the two interesting crisp flavours he recommended - XXXB and Abbots Ale flavour. ;-)

Regards,

Freddy
PS Have you ever had the feeling that you are about to be teletransported to the 'Bird Chat' site?

As Christmas is approaching, I thought I would splash out again today (11.30 - 12.15) on a visit to the "Swan Holme" on Doddington Road, Lincoln to look for Goosanders on Lodge Lake, viewable from the pub's garden. I was in luck with two birds there, one up under the bank but the other swimming around the lake and giving excellent binocular views - plus (incl.) :
Gadwall
Cormorant
Tufted Duck
LT Tit
I paid an increased entrance fee this time -
Packet of crisps (60p) (sorry, John), they only sell McCoys
1/2 Pint of Abbots Ale (£1.35p) - as (quite rightly) recommended by Chris.
Anyway, I can relax now as throwing financial prudence to the wind, living it up in the fast lane and throwing my pension money around like that could easily become a regrettable habit. Shsh - I must think of the other half (that is, wife, not pint) ;-)
The active Goosander was still circling the lake as I left ....... visit recommended if you live locally and have time.

Regards,

Freddy

Obviously you haven't heard of the credit crunch with your lack of fiscal prudence Freddy but of course Goosanders are always nice to see and Swanholme is good for them, Gadwall and Wigeon at this time of the year.
