Mandy,
Many thanks for the info re the return of the drake Smew at Far Ings. Having an 'empty' Sunday afternoon and given the bright weather, I thought I would have another try at connecting with the bird. (This time I told my wife 'Far Ings'!)
Excellent views (2.00- 2.45pm - (almost continuous) -missed my lunch again; not even crisps this time)- initially from the Hotel Pit hide and then from the high bank to the N of the Pit which gives great views over the whole Pit. The bird took flight a couple of times but only across the Pit and not to another pit/lake.
Also on Hotel Pit : incl :

Pochard
Tufted Duck
Great-crested Grebe
Little Grebe
Gadwall
Cormorant
(but no sign of the drake Goldeneye).

Regards,

Freddy
