For those birders wanting to know where and when is the 'best' time to see the SE Owl(s) on Nocton Fen, the following may be of interest:
By 2.40pm on Wednesday 10 December, I was parked at the entrance to the Pumping Station track opposite the front of the Bardney Pits and facing them. (Unbeknown to me at the time , Russell arrived round the corner at the 'bridge entrance' to the Pits at 3.00). One SE Owl appeared from my right at 2.55 in bright sunshine, flew along the front of the Pits following the line of the dyke, flew past Russell as he arrived at 3.00 and continued on across the main road to Branston Fen. I had to wait another one and a half hours until 4.20 for the next owl action when a Barn Owl appeared in the gathering gloom. 50+ Mute Swans flighted to the Pits from nearby fields to roost at c4.oopm.

Regards,

Freddy

Just to make it clear re my 'pumping station track' reference. It's not the track that leads down to the Witham Bank Pumping Station. The track I referenced is one at the end of a long hedge along the metalled Causeway road opposite the front of the Pits near a small white barrier. There seems to be some sort of brick building towards the bottom of that track which I (?wrongly) assumed was another 'pumping station'. Sorry for any confusion :-?

Regards,

Freddy
