WEATHER: Cold, gloomy and overcast.
COMPANY: Group of RSPB membersbriefly and Dad, my telescope carrier.

LIFERS: Got my White-Fronted Geese!

AND.............. I got my first sighting of Redwing!!!!!!

OTHER SPECIES SEEN:

Kestrel - 1 male

Curlew - large group
Lapwing - in field near the White-fronts
Redshank - 2 calling
Little Egret - 1

Fieldfare - large flock near bushes at rear of the reserve
Goldfinch - 10
Blackbird - 5
Dunnock - 2 in shrubs near car park
House Sparrow - with Dunnocks
Magpie - 4
Pheasant - males and females in fields

Mute Swan - 3 (2 adult, 1 juvenile)
Mallard - 20 in new scrapes
Teal - few in scrapes.
Usual Collared Doves and Woodpigeons

Life List now 166! WHOO HOO!!!! Wonder what the next one will be?

I wondered Kathryn, whether you were thinking of going furthur afiled, for your twitches. For instance, the Isles of Scilly.

I got to the Green Heron,which was in Kent, entirely by public transport.

OK, not entirely, I got a lift from a couple of people along the way!

I mean, have you ever thought of getting somewhere by bus? This new CallConnect Plus will take you anywhere in the county, providing there's the availibility.

What are your thoughts on this?

Where there is a will, there is a way....

I'm hoping to get to Welney in January some time, and have been invited to Dorset by my cousin to do some birdwatching there next spring. Hope to do Hengistbury Head (first attempt at seawatching) and possibly Poole Harbour and Radipole.



There's a small place (1 hectare) outside Gosberton that seems accessible, called Boston Road Brick Pits. That's immediately adjacent to the main Boston - Spalding bus route. Further out, are there any UK reserves that are served by regular, frequent buses or trains?



I'll definitely be getting some info about this - how affordable is it?

It is a demand-reponsive bus service, so as much as a bus would cost to get there. However, if you have a national bus pass, which you can certainly get (because you can't drive), then it's free.

By twitches, I meant the twitchers were you get 60,000 people all looking at one bird.
