I spotted a Little Egret on the Billingborough Lode at Sempringham Fen yesterday. My neighbour confirmed that it first appeared on Christmas day. I have lived in the Fen for nearly five years and this is the first time I have seen this species. Today a couple of snipe erupted from the Lode we do see these from time to time. |

I saw one in the beck at Rippingale, Boxing day which is only a couple of miles from Sempringham fen. There has been one quite regularly at nearby Dunsby fen too, so all sightings could relate to the same bird? On the other hand the nearest breeding pair that I know of is less than 10 miles away so we should perhaps expect more sightings. Best regards, Ian |
