Walked across my local patch this morning. As I neared the mere I could hear Whooper swans calling and when I got there I was amazed to find 121 of them on the mere (the largest flock I have ever seen in Lincolnshire). They were very vocal with several birds displaying. There were only 8 or 9 juveniles present. The birds were still present when I left at 13:15. Also 1 Kingfisher. |

I was driving around the Lincoln bypass at 5pm this evening driving east when a skein of c60 swans, presumably whoopers, flew low over the A46 following the Fossdyke towards Burton Woods. Mike |

The 13 Whooper Swans are still present this morning, Thursday. Assuming that some of them are part of the 121 which arrived last Fridy they have now been present for a week. Presumably the NW winds are deterring them from moving and they will continue their migration when the winds turn to a more favouable direction. Also present 2 Oystercatchers. |
