Despite a small influx of Siskins in early January at Bourne Wood, the birds (mainly adults) didn't hang around and although 26 were ringed in January, no more were subsequently caught. It is obviously too late to get large numbers passing through now. However an unexpected influx of Redpolls in Bob Sheppard's garden in the last few days resulted with 35 Lesser Redpolls and 1 Common Redpoll being ringed and another Common Redpoll controlled (this had been ringed in Cumbria in April 2009). One Lesser Redpoll was judged to be a Greenland Redpoll (Common/Mealy sized but darker than the other Lessers).
