Post subject:  Tit species survival

This morning I went to one of my regular garden sites adjacent to the A46 near Osgodby. 61 new birds were ringed including 32 Blue Tits and 3 Willow Tits and 16 birds were re-trapped. All but 8 birds were Tit species. 25% of the new birds were birds that were definitely hatched prior to 2010 whereas 68% of the re-traps were hatched prior to 2010. I wonder whether the older more sedentary birds were better equipped to survive the harsh winter we have experienced?
