Hi Jayne, GR02634 was ringed by Bob Sheppard just north-east of Orby on 27/07/2010. She was a chick in a brood of four (two males and two females) in a Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board pole-box...........approximately 9km east of Dalby Hill. Please let me know if you have reported your find to the BTO, as all reports are useful in order to build up a picture of movements, longevity and circumstances of death. Unfortunately roads account for the biggest mortality of our Barn Owls, especially young owls in their first year. Thanks, Alan Ball |

Thank you Andy I reported it to the BTO this afternoon. Alan thank you for the information, it makes me so sad to have found her in such a sad way, poor thing managed to survive her first winter in such terrible conditions to then be killed by a car. Its heartbreaking, she will be buried under a buddleia bush in my garden tomorrow. This is the second I have picked up off the road in 2 months, its so desperately sad. |
