The oldest retrap Blue Tit I have personally encountered previously is 5 years, but we have recaptured two Blue Tits in Bob Sheppard's garden at Bourne this week that were both ringed in January 2004. Both birds are now approaching 8 years after ringing, which is not too far short of the British 'record' of 9 years 9 months for a Blue Tit. Also in the last month, a Robin recaptured 6 years after ringing at Bourne and a Dunlin at Wrangle after 12 years. Alan |
