I have seen and photographed a Immature gull I think GBBG and It had a ring around its leg, I was wondering how I could retieve the information on this bird. Many thanks Anthony

Hi Anthony,

If it is a metal ring, you would need to get the complete number.....and ringing scheme details if not a British ring (address is on the ring). British rings of GBBG size will have two letters followed by five numbers. Problem with photographs is that they only show one side of a ring and the number tends to go all the way round it. I managed to get the full number on a ring on a Waxwing in Lincoln a few years ago, but it took around 50 photos over three days to get the full number combination.


If it's a plastic color ring, then the ring colour and letters/numbers on it are required to individually identify the bird.
