Back in December last year I noticed there was a Greylag Goose with a neck collar at Messingham Sand Quarries which was in a flock of approx 500 other Greylags. After a little effort I managed to get close enough to the flock to be able to read the lettering on the neck collar. The info was sent away and eventually I received a reply that the bird was banded on the north coast of Norway close to the Russian border, details below.

Despite further visits to the reserve after the bird was not seen again. Just goes to show that the Greylags are not always local birds and that we do get some genuine northern birds moving down here for the winter.
