For the first time in 20+ years there has been a significant movement of Lesser Redpolls through my main site at Occupation Lane, Walesby. On Easter Saturday and Easter Monday I put up 3 x 60' nets in normal net rides and caught 101 plus 19 Siskins and 2 Bramblings. They were all coming down to drink in puddles caused by our footprints in the mud! Wing lengths varied from 66mm to 75mm and weights from 9.8 grammes to 15 grammes. There were no Mealies amongst them. Incredibly, none were re-trapped on either day. Has anyone come across similar spring migration!
