Our annual ringing weekend at Donna Nook was not as spectacular as last year but still produced 273 birds making a total of 344 so far this month. A Water Rail, 2 late Willow Warblers and 19 Bramblings were of note - all the Bramblings were this years birds and only two were female! Visual migration picked up today with a constant stream of finches going south, mainly chaffinches. Groups of 20 or so Redwings started coming through from 11a.m. and were not deterred by a helicopter using the range for a couple of hours. Other birds seen include a Grey Wagtail (14th) and Black Redstart today.
