I noticed several colour ringed twite in amongst a small flock on freshwater pools at Saltfleet Haven recently. Some info about the project on this link.

The Mid-Lincs Ringing Group (Martin Sizer) has tried to trap wintering birds at Donna Nook as part of this project but it has proved very difficult due to disturbance by the number of seal watchers at this time of year. Dave Sowter (see link) will be delighted to receive any information on colour ringed Twite on the Lincolnshire coast.

Received a quick reply from Dave Sowter;

Thanks for the information on the twite. These are definitely twite from S Pennines. We have used to different pinks.

One a soft 'baby' pink that can fade to a fawn colour that is used at a Site at Light Hazzles reservoir SD9619 and the other is a deeper 'shocking carmine pink' that is used at two sites further to the east Deerhill reservoir (SE0711) and the other Warley reservoir (SE0231). The other ring on the same leg is usually striped to tell the time period when it was ringed.

We have ringed over 200 at the Deerhill site in the last month compared with a few at Warley. However the majority of these flocks were not ringed before and so we think they may have come down the Pennines from further north - but need to have people up there to either cr-ring some birds or see ours when they are migrating.
