Evening all, Thought this might be of interest. Just had a reply on a colour-ringed Turnstone seen at Cleethorpes on 4/12/07 & 1/1/08 (and most probably still wintering there) Upper left leg: White flag Lower left leg: Dark blue over dark blue Upper right leg: Metal ring Lower right leg: Yellow over yellow Adult female Ringed at Alert, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada 82 30N 62 20W Ringing Date: 28/07/01 Of further interest for the ringers - the bird was caught while preparing for migration after breeding. It had a brood patch that was refeathering & weighed 139g when caught. regards Chris |

Chris this sounds like the turnstone i also reported on the forum on dec 3rd 07. mine was noted at the rear of the leisure ctr cleethorpes front, its lower left leg was covered in in mud could not be sure of dark blue but thought pale blue or greenish but the rest checks out the same and at the same time as your first sighting. This is an excellent recovery and shows the value of colour ringing. Look out for colour ringed Tree Sparrows in the Wragby/Louth area as several ringers are taking part in a project managed by Anne Goodall. |
