With excellent weather this week I tried out actinic lamp in garden on Tuesday night (30th June) and MV bulb on Wednesday night (1st July). Both were placed over a Skinner trap and in same location in garden. Weather conditions similar on both nights (very warm, dry and light winds).
With actinic lamp caught about 80 moths of 37 species including triple-spotted clay, foxglove pug, privet hawk, sandy carpet and short-cloaked moth.
With MV lamp caught over 220 moths of 58 species including small fan-foot, light emerald, common emerald, elephant hawk, peach blossom, silver Y, diamondback moth, beautiful hook-tip, broad-barred white, lychnis, clay, red-barred tortrix and Limnacacia phragmitella. A much higher percentage of micros were noted with the MV bulb.
