While at Crowle yesterday,Dave Wright and myself had a clearwing moth sp. which we did'nt get conclusive views of due to the wind blowing it off the vegetation it was settled on,but have since looked in the Moths of Great Britain by Lewington et al,and have come to the tentative conclusion that it was probably a Large red-belted Clearwing,as there was a distinct red band across the abdomen, and going by the species habitat requirements thought this species probably fitted the i.d. best. If anyone has any sightings of the species at Crowle,or any comments on our i.d. i would be very gratefull,if only it had been a still day,we would have had the photographic evidence.
Regards
Steve
