Just to note that the first Nathusius' pipistrelle in Lincolnshire for 13 years turned up last week in Lincoln. It arrived in a pallette of American timber that had been stored (open) in the Merseyside area for several weeks. It had obviously climbed inside to hibernate.

Nathusius' pip is the least commonly encountered of the 3 British pips species. For more information on this species visit:

http://www.nathusius.org.uk/

The distribution in Britain is interesting:

Note the number of records from Northern Ireland and Shetland - the latter location possibly hinting that this species is highly migratory.

Thanks to Mark Briggs and Kev Wilson for finding the bat and passing the information on respectively.
