The July emergence of fresh Peacock adults has now started. I had several at Bedford Purlieus yesterday and today they appeared in the garden on Buddleia. They will hibernate in due course and reappear next Spring to mate and breed, with the next generation appearing in July........so the annual cycle continues, with the adult living for up to 11 months.(That compares very favourably, say, with the Black Hairstreak adult's span of some 2 weeks!)

That's a great Buddleia list, John, and it seems to highlight current trends for two butterflies :

Painted Lady - not so many about this July.

Red Admiral - very good numbers this year.

In addition :
Gatekeeper - few and far between in my garden this July, whereas in a 'good' year I've had days with over 20 thronging the Marjoram. I wonder if Max (JohnTG) has had this special visitor so far this year?

One Gatekeeper in our garden today, plus a few Peacocks and good numbers of Red Admiral.
