A visit to Twyford Wood this afternoon for a few hours, primarily to survey the Sanctuary Reserve, exceeded all expectations with regards to the two skipper species. Despite the recent poor weather, numbers were high and a great improvement on last year's relatively poor figure.

Grizzled Skipper - 41, including 3 along the woodland ride halfway between the reserve and the car park.
Dingy Skipper - 31
Green Hairstreak - 2
Small Heath - 7
Brown Argus - 2
Common Blue - 19
Brimstone - 1 (male)
Orange Tip - 2 (male and female)
Large White - 2
Green-veined White - 6
Speckled Wood - 1
Small Tortoiseshell - 1

Regards

Dave, with Steve Routledge
