A four hour visit here today produced the following sightings:

5 Common-blue
5 Large Skipper
8 Speckled Wood
1 female Brimstone
3 Brown Argus
2 Small Heath
1 Small White
1 Large White
1 Painted Lady

Masses of brown butterflies in the good conditions today,this is what we recorded:

162 Ringlet
172 Meadow Brown

2 Red Admiral
5 Small Tortoiseshell

I arrived about 2.30 for Open Day. And as Steve says the place was heaving with Ringlet. I was actually having a day off birding etc and only took my 7 x 21 bins just in case. Met Colin later in day and while with him had 2 Painted Lady, 1 Small Tortoiseshell, 2 Small White and loads of Ringlet.

While sat on the seat at Grebe Lake had my first Gatekeeper this year.

Despite the far from ideal conditions, heavy showers and the occasional sunny interval, a surprisingly good number of butterflies were seen this morning and the records are as follows:

Painted Lady - 5
Peacock - 4
Comma - 1
Meadow Brown - 70
Ringlet - 25
Gatekeeper - 68
Speckled Wood - 13
Small Skipper - 7
Small Copper - 2
Common Blue - 3
Large White - 12
Small White - 7
Green-veined White - 28
