The Open Day on Sunday 25th July was a great success with good weather and a good number of people attending. Over Saturday night, Toby Ludlow and his colleagues had collected over 100 macro and a similar number of micro moths - many of them potted and labelled and on display in the Education Centre. The two butterfly walks at 11.00 and 14.00 enabled those participating to see a wide variety of local butterflies. 23 species were recorded (many netted and potted for close inspection ) including : White-letter Hairstreak Purple Hairstreak White Admiral Red Admiral Small Copper Marbled White Brimstone and the 3 Skippers - Large, Small and Essex plus Hummingbird Hawkmoth and Silver Y moth. Many thanks to - Peter Cawdell, Branch Chairman and his Committee for organising the event Our walk leaders /netters......Peter C., Derek Fox and Dave Wright John Davison for dispensing such good value small eats, soft drinks, tea, coffee, etc. All in all a great day out. Regards, Freddy |
