To follow up Colin's report of 15 August :

My son, Alex, and I went to Chambers Farm Wood this afternoon (Monday), 3.15 - 5.30pm in search of the Brown Hairstreak.
Fiveways was our base area and for the first hour or so we had plenty of 'distractors' in the Blackthorn, Oak and Ash with Speckled Wood, Meadow Brown and Gatekeeper, but no sightings of Brown Hairstreak and only one or two of Purple H.
We were joined at c 4.15 by Ian Lee, a butterflier/birder from Cleethorpes and 4.30 - 5.00 was prime time - with warm sunshine present on the target areas and no wind :

3 female Brown Hairstreak - seen at one and the same time, with a number of individual sightings
6+ Purple Hairstreak - with many individual sightings
plus incl.
5 Red Admiral
4 male Brimstone
Comma.

Regards,

Freddy
