Good numbers of dark-green fritillaries currently on the wing at this Lincs Trust reserve. I had a minimum of 13 seen in flight at one time last weekend (6 July) - but suspect a good few tens present. Also lots of ringlets, meadown browns and 6 spot burnet moths. etc. late report sorry

And looking good floristically with hundreds of pyramidal orchids (I stopped counting at 200) amongst other limestone grassland plants

Less successfully a search for glow worms last night (13th) didn't turn up any (5-7 seen in previosu years here)

Further to Vin Fleming's post, I visited the LWT Reserve Robert's Field for c 2 hours today (Thu). A Red Kite was circling low as I arrived just after midday.
Up to 20 Dark Green Fritillaries were seen in the bright sunshine including some in the separate flower meadow to the left of the entry gate. Several hundred Meadow Brown, Ringlet and 6-spot Burnet Moths were active.
Many varieties of flowering plants were noted including still large numbers of Pyramidal Orchid, Harebell, Scabious, Knapweed, Mallow and St. John's Wort.
Also seen :

Marbled White - 2
Small Tortoiseshell - 1
Spp White - 20+
Spp small Skipper - 15-20 (the ones I identified were Small Skippers)

The two fields are magnificent examples of flourishing flower meadows and well worth a visit - with the Dark Green Fritillaries an added bonus.

I passed a couple of fly-tipped refrigerators along the access road from Clipsham and, sadly, there were half a dozen fly-tipped refrigerators and freezers littering/blocking the entrance to Robert's Field itself, severely reducing the parking area.
Thanks, Vin, for the lead info.
