Ive seen a few peacock or red admiral..but going for peacock (note to self..study flutterby's) Seen them this week..twice today 28th nov..is this normal for this time of year? |

Andy, It is perfectly normal behaviour. Any bright, sunny and warmer period can bring a Peacock, Red Admiral or Small Tortoiseshell out of its winter hibernation torpor. It will occasionally find some autumn/winter flowers for a nectar top-up before returning to the protection of a garage, shed, ivy-covered wall, hollow tree, eaves, etc., to continue its hibernation. Many of the butterflies' attempts at resuming hibernation are thwarted by well-meaning but misguided homeowners who 'rescue' them and release them outside. Freddy |

Thankyou for answering Freddy..i hold my hand up to trying to release butterfly outside but luckily it flew more inwards & i couldnt find it..phew..will know to leave alone next time! |
