Post subject:  Lincs Branch BC Field Trip - Sunday 7th September

Chambers Farm Wood

Lincs Branch BC (led by Derek Fox) hosted a Norfolk group. About 20 of us set off in sunshine at 11.00 after earlier mist and chill. The target species was Brown Hairstreak. Soon after midday we all had excellent close and extended views of a female Brown Hairstreak egg-laying on Blackthorn/Sloe, about 5 feet up :D

The butterfly then gave even closer views by flying down to a nearby plant. A number of the photographers/people with cameras had their lenses no more than 12 inches from the settled butterfly and, probably, some would have got even closer if it hadn't flown away.....well away, before disappearing in the distance.

Also (incl. in the excellent Butterfly Garden) :

Speckled Wood - 20+
Red Admiral - 12+
Small Tortoiseshell - 6+
Spp White.
