For what it's worth there were at least 7 people there early this morning. 5 were photographers and none wanted to photograph purple hairstreak or white admiral. Since the illegal release of marsh frit many years ago all subsequent illegal releases have attracted visitors so there is clearly some interest in the butterflies irrespective of the circumstances of their appearance.
The marsh frits have become an established colony and the Lincs Trust have information boards which advertise their presence, which hardly constitutes an objection to their release.
Today I saw 1 briefly between 9 and 11 together with the expected range of butterflies so I will have to go back and try to get a better view of this charismatic species. If some butterflies are under great pressure what is the objection to attempts to artificially establish new sites on existing protected reserves.
Cheers. Rick
