Hi Brian,

100% sure of id.

Butterfly was in flight and then settled one yard in front of me.
You would agree one can id Marbled White at 20 yards!

The butterfly was C. 200 - 300 yards from the Carlton Centre area gate along the main path.

Regards,

Freddy

Thank,s Freddy.

If you are planning to go again pls pm, would appreciate to meet you.

Pleaae pm anyway as the hollow is an unrecorded site and any records are more than worthwhile in the overall plan!!

Cheers Brian.

Has the illusive butterfly "introducer" decided to give Chambers a rest and move to Greetwell?

Stuart,

Don't write off Chambers as an "introduction" site yet.

One butterfly I omitted (for "introduction" reasons) from my 30/06 Chambers Wood list was a probable
Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary!

I had good views of this butterfly along the Main Track to Fiveways late am in bright sunshine. It flew past me and settled twice but unfortunately only gave me upperside views (incl. through binoculars). An underside view would have clinched the id. and separated it from PBF (but too late, surely, for that species on 30 June). Having been watching SPBF in some numbers in Scotland as recently as 13 June, I was amazed at first and then remembered the Chambers Wood "intros"!

Regards,

Freddy

PS What next? A visit from the Queen of Spain?

to be fair with the airstream we are experiencing at the moment, hot south-easterlies from the Black Sea region just about anything is possible so it may not be wise to write everything off--there has been the largest arrival of Red-veined Darters into the UK ever and I am sure other odd dragons will follow before the week is out so why not butterflies--some spanking new Painted Ladies and Red Admirals arriving/emerging at present
