Just posted a picture on the album. Checked my very old "Observers book of butterflies" but cannot identify. Be obliged if you would clarify ID Richard |

Richard It is a female Meadow Brown. Typical males have virtually no orange on the upper wings. Regards Freddy |

Richard, The only thing I would add is that the photo shows a very faded and tatty butterfly - it is far from pristine. The stage must be reached when a very tatty female could look like a very tatty male on its last wings. On balance, however, I would say female. Regards Freddy |
