10.30 - 1pm. After the recent wet and cloudy weather, 2-3 hours of bright, warm sunshine today produced an abundance of butterflies of 16 species:

Brown Hairstreak - 2 females appeared on egg-laying forays at c11.15, settling at one stage c 4 feet apart on Blackthorn and c3 feet above the ground.
Purple Hairstreak - 5
Brimstone c10 - males and females, incl. 5 in the Butterfly Garden
Wall 3
Gatekeeper 2 - in the Butterfly Garden
Meadow Brown
Speckled Wood
Peacock
Painted Lady
Red Admiral
Small Copper
Brown Argus
Common Blue
Large White
Small White
Green - veined White
