Hello Dave

Sheila and I were also at Twyford Wood this afternoon but failed to find any Green Hairstreaks. We saw c15 Dingy Skipper, c 12 Grizzled Skipper a Brimstone and a Peacock plus an unidentified white butterfly. I'm interested in your mention of Sanctuary Reserve as we spent our time in an area we have always referred to as Butterfly Consevation Reserve. I am aware that there is a second reserve in Twyford Wood and I wonder where it is and could that have been the area you visited today as we saw no-one else during our visit.

Regards,

Colin and Sheila

Hi Colin and Sheila

We were at Twyford from 11.50 until 13.30 and visited the same area as yourselves. It is referred to as the Sanctuary Reserve for record purposes. The other area you mentioned is known as the "Glades Reserve" and is difficult to find unless you know your way through the maze of tracks and old runways. It's quite a long walk between the two areas.

The Green Hairstreaks were mainly on the right-hand side as you entered the reserve and were behaving similar to the skippers by flying low to the ground. They occasionally landed either on the ground or on small sprigs of Hawthorn or other bits of vegetation.

Regards

Dave

Hello Dave

Perhaps our afternoon visit when it was more coudy made the difference. We would be pleased to join you, should you visit Twyford again, and find our way to the Glades Reserve.

Cheers,

Colin and Sheila
