Post subject: | Lincolnshire Branch (BC) Open Day - Sun 03 08 08 |
The Lincolnshire Branch of Butterfly Conservation held its Open Day at Chambers Farm Wood, Bardney from 10.00 on Sunday 3rd August. Thankfully, sunny intervals predominated for the morning and early afternoon. Congratulations must go to the Committee for organising such a pleasant and enjoyable day for the 25-30 of us who turned up. There were 'butterfly walks' at 11.00 and 2.00 with Peter Cawdell, Mike Speight and Dave Wright, ably assisted by the two Ludlow lads as additional netters. A total in excess of 20 species were recorded during the day including : White Admiral Red Admiral Painted Lady Wall Brown Argus Purple Hairstreak Marbled White the Three Skippers (and 2 specimens of the Phantom Midland Distributor's Scotch Argus) Refreshments were available and a number of displays were held in the Education Centre including one of potted Moths from Toby Ludlow's very successful Moth Evening on 2nd August (some 80 species having been collected). The Branch AGM was held from 5.00pm. The Joe Duddington Memorial Butterfly Garden provided a marvellous and comprehensive show of butterfly plants attracting a minimum of 15 species throughout the day. This Butterfly Garden alone is worth a special visit and it is with FREE entry! Thanks again, Committee, for a great day. The Open Day 2009 should be a 'MUST ATTEND' event for all Lincolnshire butterfly lovers. Regards, Freddy |
