hi, lately ive seen a large yellow butterfly twice,but only briefly,is this the brimstone,or a migrant butterfly,it looked bigger than brimstone,thou may be wrong. rog. |

Hi Roger, The only 'yellow' butterflies you'll see in the UK are Brimstone male fore-wing 26/30mm (the female Brimstone is a greenish- white) Clouded Yellow male fore-wing 23/27mm (the length of the fore-wing is measured from apex to point of attachment to thorax in millimetres). The Clouded Yellow is a migrant but is marginally smaller than the Brimstone and has wide black marginal borders. I think you will have seen the male Brimstone. Regards, Freddy |
