Hi,

The RSPB intends to run a Montagu's harrier viewpoint in Lincolnshire from Saturday 23 June until Sunday 26 August. The viewpoint will be close to a nesting pair and should enable excellent views of this superb bird.

The viewpoint will be free, although there will be a suggested donation of £2 per vehicle (bicycles free) to help cover the costs of running the scheme.

Details of the location will be announced late on Friday 22 June assuming the birds are still present.

If you require any more information about the project please contact me.

A bit more info...

The viewpoint will be open from 9am to 7pm every weekday and 8am to 8pm on weekends. Toilets, light refreshments, shelter and seating will be available on site. How's that for service!

Sounds good John !
I realise that we cannot be too close to the nest site but can you give an idea of approximate viewing distance ?

Roy.

Hi Roy,

I think you'll be pleased. The birds are going to be closer to the viewpoint, on average I'd say half the distance of the pair of 2004.

RSPB Media Release. THE FULL MONTY: A pair of Montagu’s Harriers, the UK’s rarest breeding birds of prey are nesting at Digby Fen between Lincoln and Boston.

From Saturday June 23, seven days a week, the RSPB are running a viewpoint to help enable the public to see these incredible birds. The RSPB viewpoint will be open from 9 am until 7 pm on weekdays, 8 am until 8 pm on weekends and public holidays from Saturday 23 June until Monday 26 August. The viewpoint is free, but there is a suggested donation of £2 per vehicle to help cover the costs of running the project. The viewpoint car park is mid way along the Digby Fen Road. The site will be signposted from the A17.

The viewpoint is NOT open until tomorrow (Saturday 23 June) so please do not visit until then.

The eggs have hatched so there should be reasonably frequent sightings of the adults.

Please only watch from the viewpoint. Montagu's harriers are specially protected, any intentional or reckless disturbance could lead to a heavy fine and/or a prison sentance.

Look forward to seeing you there,

JB
