The terrible rains of this week put over 1m of water into the wader pits at North Killingholme Haven; the warden Eddie Smith is working hard at getting the levels down by opening the sluice up to 10 hours a day but even so it will take at least 10 days before there is any real sign of lower levels (if we do not get much more rain); it may look as if nothing is being done but the rainand runoff probably added 30-50% by volume of water to what was in the pits at the time and it is only possible to drain it off at low water and on falling tides; Eddie's phone number is in the hide if anyone needs more information It should also be noted that part of the ditch bank near the hide bridge has slipped into the drain weakening the road edge so this will need to be strengthened at some point.
