Well done, Andy. I hope it helps to increase the number of people who financially support the LBC by their membership subscription.

Blackmail? You've had all the benefits of this site for free for a couple of years. What's £12 a year? A laughable sum for the entertainment provided by this site. Just join and stop moaning.

John

There's no almost about it, i was always under the impression that the 'Lincolnshire Bird Club' and this site were seperate entities, as i understand it 'they' donate a few quid for web space but do elected officials of the said club play an active part in running what i thought was Andrew's site, i have asked the question before but nobody seemed to have a coherent answer, is it a legal/constitution thing?, having said that i will probably rejoin at some point but not without a fuss and under extreme protest, i find the whole episode pathetic.

Quite a lot for someone like me who is on Income Support and long-term unemployed.... is there not a discount rate for 'concessions'?

I thoroughly endorse John Clarkson's comments. This is a Lincolnshire Bird Club Website and membership is not expensive. I think everyone should be able to save up 3.5p a day to raise £12!!

John,
I'm not moaning, I just feel that this is a very underhand way of getting people to join the club, particularly with the banner exposing you as Members and Non Members, I know Andy very well and know that this is not his intention, but surely there has to be a better way to encourage birders to join the LBC ?

Over my 30 years of birding I have tended to join clubs that I have wanted to, not ones that I have been forced to join, I agree that the £12 per year is very reasonable, this is not the issue here , there just seems to be something very uncomfortable about it all .

You can PM me if you wish as I dont want this to become another one of those subjects that gets out of hand and usually ends up with a Black Kite or a Goshawk mentioned !

keep up the good work

Trev

To some extent I agree with you. The member v non-member banner may not be necessary but it's exasperating that people use this site to air their views, publicise their photos, blogspots, websites, sell their unwanted gear and then, as non-paying contributors, have the gall to criticise others, slag off their sightings, bad mouth individuals and organisations etc. I'd have preferred a simple statement that after a certain date only paid up members would be able to post on the site. To answer Katherine's point she can still visit the site and view its wit and wisdom, articles and pics without paying but not be able to post stuff so it's still available and you get to save £12 pa.

Enough said. I also agree Trev that it would be tragic for this to become another Black Goshawk style debate!

Cheers

John
