How far is the range of a kingfisher? Am prompted to ask this as i sometimes see a kingfisher behind Westwick Gardens and i am fairly sure that there are no suitable nesting sites close by,and if there were any am sure the local hooligans would destroy it.

At this time of the year, 1st year Kingfishers move about quite a bit on post juvenile dispersal. They can be seen in a variety of places in July/ August and and not neccessarily near water. From ringing recoveries, any movement over 50 kilometres is exceptional.
