After reading Scunthorpe Telegraph online today about the Marsh Harrier young uns at Blacktoft this year. I didn't realise it is easier to see the Golden Eagle and Peregrine in Britain, than it is the Marsh Harrier. Unless of course the person who wrote the piece has got their facts wrong.

In the eight years i've been regular birdwatching, if I go to certain places I can almost guarantee to see the Marsh Harrier at the right time of year, but I've never seen a Golden Eagle.

Can someone enlighten me?

You mean you still believe what you read in the papers ?

Just remember what gets recorded is what gets reported
When was the last time you reported seeing a starling ?
Apparently house sparrows are in decline - They may be in London but not at my bird table they aren't. But would you be interested if everyday I logged in how many I'd seen - I think not
You go to Blacktoft - you expect to see the marsh harriers - and the coots and the mallards but someone else is obviously going to be put in a report on them so you say nowt
Remember - see it record it - otherwise reallty get twisted by the national press and eagles are more common than starling in the skies over Scunthorpe

Hello Bob,

Being a writer myself I always research thoroughly, because there are people out there who like to pick up on published mistakes, be it punctuation or facts.

As to reading newspapers I rarely do. The only reason I have been looking at the online version of Telegraph, is to find out what happened to my friend who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on Monday.

As regards reporting my sightings, I do, every time I go out wildlife watching, be it in the garden or in my local patch etc.

While sat in garden this afternoon about 100 Starlings flew over and landed on a neighbours roof.

For each of last two days had 100+ Starlings raiding the trees for berries in my garden. Along with lots of other birds they are welcome.
