I saw a spidery thing on the garage door on Friday and I was wondering if anyone could give me an id. It's body was 4mm long and wide, and it's legs varied between 45 and 50mm. It was a sort of dusky brown colour.

Sounds like a Harvestman, probably Phalangium opilio, closely related to spiders.

I can see how my description would make you think of a harvestman, but I forgot to mention that it's body and legs were absolutely flat against the wood it was on.
