Hi

Yep, was completely amazed to pick up a distant tern off Witham Mouth that was heading directly for me. Even more amazed when it materialized into a 1st winter Arctic Tern and proceeded to patrol the Welland channel around Tabs Head for 30 mins today around midday.

Does anyone know how many December records of Arctic Tern there have been in Lincs? Had a look in Aitkin and Lorand, but no mention of anything after mid-October. I guess i should be a bit gutted considering that Forster's Tern is possibly more common than Arctic this time of year in Britain!

Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Paul

We went through a lot of the same expressions at about 11:00 this morning as probably the same bird flew slowly south at Freiston Shore.

Regards,

Colin and Sheila

Paul there was a iw Arctic at Barton on November 8th 2001 but that is the latest I have a record of --getting any such details from the LBC is like trying to get blood out of the proverbial----although it should be very easy considering that the system is supposed to be computerised

Thanks for the info Graham.

Cloin & Sheila - yes, the Arctic Tern came in from the north east, so would have been coming south past Freiston Shore. Be interesting to see if it hangs around the area, or might make a nice winter surprise for the guys at Grafham!
