Desert Wheatear

A visit to Burniston,near Scarborough today,to see the reported male Desert Wheatear,had us get excellant views of the bird,at one point as close as 8 feet away,as it fed on the cliff top,what a lovely bird.
Other birds in the area included 2 Lapland Buntings,male Merlin and about 150 Siskin(south).
Another visit to Scarborough,produced the resident Black-throated Diver in the harbour,Peregrine along marine drive and 5 Mediterranean Gulls(4 adult and 1 2nd winter) in Holbeck car-park.Another excellant days birding in North York's.

I also caught up with a Desert Wheatear today except I headed for the one at Horsey, Norfolk. This bird was also very obliging, I took some photos of it which are on my web site, although I think half the bird photographers in the country have taken photos of it judging by the number of lenses there today.

Very impressive photo's Nick,this bird must have been incredibly tame,the only thing that spoilt it with the Yorkshire bird was the wind,it was blowing a gale up there.

Thanks Steve, the bird was enticed with meal worms and kept returning to a particular area, so it was just a matter of waiting at this location. It was windy at Horsey and there was a bit of a sand storm on the beach but the bird was inland of the dunes which served as a wind brake. I have seen the photos of your bird on GPC's blog, looked like a nice bird.

It would be nice if one appeared on the coast exactly half way between these two birds!

Another trip to my favourite part of the world,with Chris Atkin and Dave Wright,had us get excellant views of the gorgeous 1st winter male Desert Wheatear,also here was a single fly-over Lapland Bunting,unfortunately put on the pager as a Snow Bunting!
Other birds of note where the cracking Black-throated Diver in Scarboro' harbour,which showed extremely well today,a single Peregrine along marine drive and 5 adult and 1 2nd winter Med. Gull's at Holbeck car-park.
All before the rain came down at dinner time!
