Whilst catching good numbers of Siskins (25) in a garden near Market Rasen this morning, I also caught an adult male Lesser Redpoll which was feeding on niger seed. It's the first time I've seen this - has anyone else had Lesser Redpoll feeding at their bird feeders?

Stuart,

Not had any Lesser Redpolls on niger feeders recently, but in 2005 when we had the last big influx of Siskins, Bob Sheppard and I caught around 60 Lesser Redpolls in his garden in Bourne - these were feeding on niger.

On farmland, I have also witnessed Tree Sparrow and Reed Bunting feeding at niger feeders.

Alan

Have also had lesser redpoll feeding on two occasions on niger in the garden - 2 in January and then one in late February - both in 2006 (and both for a single day only) and also in Bourne. Pity they don't do it more often. Vin
