A Yellow Wagtail possibly of the form lutea ('Yellow-headed' Wagtail) for its second day, photos on my website.

Impressive looking bird but personally I'm not convinced its lutea. The head pattern reminds of Citrine Wagtail but there are plenty of pointers confirming it isnt one (no black collar, no grey back etc). Possibly a Citrine x Yellow wagtail hybrid or just another one of those odd Yellow Wagtail variants?

regards

Chris

Just an aberrant Yellow Wagtail for me. It is easy to see why the yellow head would make one think of Citrine, but there isn't anything else about the bird to suggest any Citrine influence. Plus we all know how variable Yellow Wagtails can be...

The 'yellow-headed' wagtail was still present at about 7.30 last night but no sign of it today - just three typical yellow wags.

Also at Cov. Res. 1 Common Sand., 1 Goosander, 9 White Wagtails (K Robinson)

I must admit I don’t know what it was and I suspect we will never be sure, I quoted it as possibly of the form lutea because this is the route BirdGuides decided to take, did you get any video footage of it Roy.
