LINCOLN Group RSPB visited Paxton Pits Nature Reserve,Cambs (9.30-5.00pm),next to the River Great Ouse, on Sunday 11th May. 43 members led by Mike Willey enjoyed a glorious sunny day. We broke up into smaller groups, walking around the various nature trails on the 75 hectares of lakes, meadow, grassland, scrub and woodland of the Nature Reserve. Immediate views of a Hobby circling over the Visitor Centre was a good start to the day's birding. Species recorded included :
Buzzard - 4 Garganey Turtle Dove Common Tern Nightingale - 10+ Garden Warbler Blackcap Whitethroat Chiffchaff Willow Warbler Cetti's Warbler Sedge Warbler Reed Bunting Swift Sand Martin Great-crested Grebe Little Grebe Great-spotted Woodpecker Green Woodpecker Kingfisher Oystercatcher plus the specialities of the Reserve - good numbers of nesting Cormorants and Grey Herons.
