in reply to k&s pavin about permits, access etc to Alkborough Flats i would like to know who has control over the reserve. To state that access would never be granted seems to be a very definate statement with a certain amount of knowledge attached to it.
Myself as a contributer to various conservation bodies and know these bodies receive a great amount of tax payers money. I am also a tax payer which makes me a stake holder. Who pays the wagers of people who run the reserve and whom or what do they run the reserve for if there is not to be any public access.
Rarities in the breeding season i can understand and endorse but migrants in a not a sensitive time i find strangely puzzling.
I cannot name another reserve that has no access at any time, is this English Nature ? who runs it ?for what seems to me a very elite few who seem to be answerable to nobody.
I feel that questions need to be both asked and answered in a constructive way and feel any contributions and funding made upon the behalf of myself either through income tax or membership of an organisation need to be accounted for not to set up a private reserve for a few individuals.
How can conservation benefit from keeping the public away. This is what happens on grouse moors to the and look what happens to hen harriers and all birds of prey.
I do not usually like sticking a stick in an hornets nest and everyone seems to skirt around the real issues. I care not that a wilsons phal as been seen there, it is all about access and rights as an individual who cares about conservation.
