the score is still 30 - 15, the last shot was clearly a let owing to the lack of proof all the fore-mentioned detail was obtained in the field at a range of 800 mts. The vagueries of moult and 3500 mile trip from canada and the fact there is no typical bird re ( isabelline shrike fiasco ) so any iota of doubt and the ball must be judged as a let. If indeed all the detail etc was obtained purely in the field I would take my hat off to such a shot but due to the late posting and the delay off the release off field info by the claiment, a retrograde claim cannot be made. Such claims can only be judged if it is instantly made so as can be fairly judged by others, re deans comments the wilsons is there again when nobody could fairly judge in the first instance. So a clear let
30 - 15

To obtain a fair point the recipitant of a shot must be ready and have a fair oppertunity to judge at the same time the retrograde info and inability to make a judgement on an equal basis is an unfair sneaky shot similar to shots that japanese snipers used to make, the ball is a let

terry whalin

Terry,
You are straying well away from your territory (Terry-tory?) here. All is fair in love, war and sniping. The 'sneakier' the sniper performs in war, the higher his survival rate will be. A non-sneaky sniper doesn't live very long!

Regards,

Freddy

PS .....and I think we are all straying well away from the territory of the Wilson's Phalarope (Alkborough Flats) !!!

Excellent photos on your blog Graham. I was at Tarifa 16th to 20th and missed the Ruppells Vulture - great pic.

What's the difference between showing the pics of birds you've seen and making a statement about the birds you've seen like the example below? Are they both bragging or simply different ways of reporting?
John

Risby Warren'
2 blackcaps,
3 stonechats,
1 Willow warbler,
15 Redwings,
[u]Appleby carrs
Peregrine(immature female)..a huge thing after pigeons.
+buteos at both sites.
A good afternoons work,i reckon.
Roger.

Hi ,john,I think their is a huge difference between a odd comment on being chuffed about a afternoon out birding, than to endlessly go on and on and on and on................snoooze,seriously thou,if people derive enjoyment from doing these sites and others enjoy reading them,im not against that,it just does not appeal to me-thats all...ahem i will have to stop bragging now...shucks!!!.
Roger.

Surely this site is used to report and send in relevant records so other people in the County can see what birds etc have recently been seen and to collate records for the relevant County reports.I have heard from several birders out of the County who say how good our forum is,and that is what it is all about, enjoying the Birds and Wildlife around us,not bragging. There would be a lot of people who would miss this forum,so let's cut out the bickering, and get back to enjoying our hobby. :D .

Regards

Steve.

dear all
i wholeheartedly agree with steve, chris and all like minded reasonable people but i will do just one more posting, probably tomorrow. The reason for this is that i am giving careful consideration to the content and how to phase it. Don't worry admin team only positive things and hopefully constructve things for the future where we might do things better,

yours thoughtfully terry whalin :| :|
