27 at Tentercroft Street, Lincoln at 11:00am this morning (Sunday 30th), feeding on the pink-berried bushes next to the carpark and then flying to the trees at the far end of the carpark.........

Very nice birds if you havn't been to see them yet....

Fantastic sight Drove into the car park at about 1.30 and there they were, sitting in the tree next to the entrance adjacent to the fruit and veg building. Thank you to the unidentified birder who lent me his expensive binoculars to see them clearly, after confirming that my pair is pants! I'm saving up already......any recommendations? As a newcomer to this hobby - way of life??!! - seeing those wonderful birds was a thrill. And who knows what we might see tomorrow....

Got over to see these Sunday lunch time - they certainly make an impression, pity the light wasn't so good to show of their colours better. Called in on Whisby afterwards and managed to flush a woodcock. Two life ticks, not a bad afternoon, went home smiling.

In the 'Rare Birds in Lincolnshire' photo album there is a Russell Hayes photo of a Lincoln Waxwing
"showing a BTO ring .......apart from the"SW7" the last digits read "378".

In that case, it was obviously a BT ring and not a BTO one. Apparently, the BT ring is often heard when Waxwings are very MOBILE.

Re the BTO-ringed bird. Another digit for this ring would give a realistic chance of identifying it - so it would help if other photographers can check their photos !!. The ring size used on Waxwing is 'B+' and is likely to start of with two letters - either BV or NV, followed by five numbers. Another number would bring the possibility down to one of 10 or 20 rings issued, and might be sufficient to identify the individual. Only 50 to 100 Waxwings are ringed in Britain each year. This ring size is also used on Crossbill, Corn Bunting and several waders such as Ringed Plover, Green and Common Sandpipers etc

Wednesday 3rd Dec - At least 27 Waxwings still present today. Still a good number of berries, so should last into next week. Ringed bird also still present this morning....and photographed - will check the photos on PC when I get home.
