A good wander around the ‘work place’ today was quiet (most of the water bodies are frozen over) but amongst the highlights were............

4 Waxwing – still in the car park this morning but they are mobile and can get as far as the western side of Teal Lake
Adult Yellow-legged Gull – spent all day on Thorpe Lake
1 Green Sandpiper – Teal Lake
1 Snipe Teal Lake
1 Green Woodpecker – Teal Lake
50 Linnet Apex Pit/Teal Lake

Within the last week other birds have included (in no particular order!)

1 Iceland Gull – as previously reported, in the Apex Pit gull roost
1 Chiffchaff – in car park
2 Kingfisher – one each on Teal and Coot Lakes
1 Little Egret – has been on Teal Lake for last ten days but not today, may return when water thaws
1 Peregrine – Grebe Lake
1 Redshank Grebe Lake
Siskins – small numbers throughout
Lesser Redpoll – small numbers throughout
2 Egyptian Geese – they get around but favour Thorpe Lake
2 Grey Wagtail – Chicken Farm is always a good bet
16+ Goldeneye – try any large waterbody when not frozen!

If anyone has any outstanding bird records for either Whisby or the North Hykeham Pits for 2008 could you please forward them to me asap as I would like to start on the Bird Report within the next day or so.

Many thanks and here's hoping for a bird filled New Year for everyone!

Grahame
